Cookie Policy

This policy explains how we use cookies and similar tracking technologies on our website, and how you can manage your preferences.

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile) when you visit a website. They are stored by your web browser and allow the website to recognise your device and remember certain information about your visit.

We also use similar technologies such as web beacons, pixel tags, and local storage which work in comparable ways. Throughout this policy, we refer to all these technologies collectively as "cookies."

Under UK law (UK GDPR and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations — PECR), we are required to tell you about the cookies we use and obtain your consent for non-essential cookies before setting them.

2. How We Use Cookies

We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies for two purposes:

Making the site work (always on)

Remembering your cookie choice, keeping you signed in to the client portal or admin area, taking payments securely, and keeping your chat history on your own device.

Analytics and advertising (only if you accept)

Google Analytics, to understand how visitors use the site, and the Meta Pixel, to measure our adverts on Facebook and Instagram. Neither loads unless you click "Accept all".

3. The Cookies We Use

Strictly necessary

EssentialRequired

Needed for the site, or for something you have asked for, to work. These do not need consent and are not used for analytics or advertising.

Examples

  • mv_consent (first-party cookie) — remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics and advertising cookies. Kept for 6 months.
  • mv_session (first-party cookie) — keeps you signed in to the client portal or admin area. Only set when you sign in; kept for 7 days.
  • Stripe — when you make a payment, Stripe loads on the payment form and may set cookies (such as __stripe_mid and __stripe_sid) to process the payment and prevent fraud.
  • metavision_chat_v2 (local storage on your device) — keeps your conversation with our chat assistant if you use it. Clear it with the reset button in the chat.

Analytics

AnalyticsOptional

Only loaded after you click "Accept all" on our cookie banner.

Examples

  • Google Analytics 4 (Google) — counts visits and shows which pages are used, how visitors arrive and roughly where from, so we can improve the site. Sets _ga and _ga_* cookies, kept for up to 2 years.

Advertising

MarketingOptional

Only loaded after you click "Accept all" on our cookie banner.

Examples

  • Meta Pixel (Meta Platforms) — tells us whether our Facebook and Instagram adverts lead to visits and enquiries, and lets Meta show our adverts to people who have visited. Sets _fbp (kept for 3 months); Meta may also use its own cookies if you are logged in to Facebook or Instagram.

We do not use any other analytics, advertising or tracking tools.

4. Third-Party Services

Some features come from other companies. This is what each one does and when it is involved:

ProviderPurposeWhen
Google AnalyticsWebsite traffic analysisOnly if you accept
Meta PixelMeasuring our Facebook and Instagram adsOnly if you accept
YouTubePlaying our videos (youtube-nocookie.com)Only when you press play
StripeSecure payment processingOnly on payment forms
SanityImages and site contentAlways (sets no cookies)
Google FontsWebsite fontsAlways (sets no cookies)

Videos are shown as a still image until you press play; nothing is loaded from YouTube before then. Once a video plays, YouTube may set its own cookies. These providers' own privacy and cookie policies apply to what they collect.

5. Analytics

If you accept, Google Analytics 4 collects information such as:

  • Number of visitors and visits
  • Pages viewed and time spent on them
  • How you arrived (search engine, link, advert or direct)
  • Device type, browser and operating system
  • Approximate location (country or city)

Google Analytics only loads after you click "Accept all". If you reject, or never choose, it does not load at all.

6. Advertising

If you accept, the Meta Pixel lets us:

  • Measure whether our Facebook and Instagram adverts lead to visits and enquiries
  • Show our adverts on Facebook and Instagram to people who have visited this site

If you reject, the Meta Pixel does not load. You will still see adverts elsewhere; they just will not be based on visiting this site.

7. Your Cookie Choices

You decide whether analytics and advertising cookies are used. Here is how:

Cookie banner

On your first visit, a banner asks you to choose "Accept all" or "Reject all". Nothing optional loads until you accept. We remember your choice for 6 months, then ask again.

Change your mind at any time

Use "Cookie Settings" in the footer of any page (or the button below) to reopen the banner. If you change to "Reject all", analytics and advertising stop from the next page you load, and we remove the Google Analytics and Meta cookies set on our domain.

Browser settings

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser. See the next section.

Blocking strictly necessary cookies in your browser will stop some features working, such as signing in to the client portal or making a payment.

8. Managing Cookies in Your Browser

Most browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can typically find cookie settings in the "Privacy," "Security," or "Advanced" section of your browser preferences.

Google Chrome

Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data

Mozilla Firefox

Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data

Apple Safari

Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data

Microsoft Edge

Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Cookies and site data

Opera

Settings → Advanced → Privacy & security → Site settings → Cookies

Brave

Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data

You can also delete all cookies that have already been set by clearing your browser history and site data.

9. Do Not Track

Some browsers include a "Do Not Track" (DNT) feature that signals to websites that you do not want your browsing activity tracked. Our website does not currently respond to DNT signals uniformly, as there is no agreed technical standard for how websites should respond.

We recommend using your cookie preferences or browser-level cookie blocking settings to control tracking rather than relying solely on DNT signals.

10. Updates to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the cookies we use, changes in technology, or changes in applicable law. When we make changes:

  • We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page
  • If we add a new analytics or advertising tool, we will ask for your consent again
  • Active clients may be notified by email for significant changes

We encourage you to review this policy periodically to stay informed about our use of cookies.
